Lower Falls - Backfilled Areas
This image has been viewed 851 times

This map, depicting many of the landscape features known to white settlers including “the gully” and “the lagoon,” shows areas backfilled by gravel and fire debris as the City worked to harness and channel the river for water power, rail crossings and real estate. Today, Anthony’s Restaurant ("Salty’s", here) rests where the lagoon once was, the Downtown Library rests on fill covering the gully, and the Upper Falls power station (adjacent to Riverfront Park) blocks the path of the southern channel.
