Alexie's "Spiral Poem"
This image has been viewed 2572 times

Any visit to the Lower Falls area should include a reading of noted author Sherman Alexie’s spiral poem, a touching reminder of the Falls’ sacred role in the lives of tribal people and a place where today the “ghosts of salmon jump.” Too often overlooked - perhaps proof of Alexie’s words - the poem is located at the corner of Monroe and Spokane Falls Boulevard. A powerful example of how words in context, animated by the reader’s own movement and peripheral observations, can convey far more than words on a page. So worthwhile, we’re hesitant to post a transcript - but if it helps encourage a visit, here’s a file copy. (Image courtesy Rick Hastings)
